Sell, Sell, Sell...

...no, not the condo already! We are in the process of a major downsizing, and we have many things for sale on CraigsList. I've already sold the Murphy Bed, my computer, and other various household items. However, I still have a lot left to go.

I plan to have a moving sale the weekend of 9.8.07 in the Boston House, so we'll see how that goes.

Update 9.2: Bathroom Fixtures

Here are some of the fixtures we chose for the bathroom.


The medicine cabinet we got is enormous (24" wide X 30" tall) and the front is a silver picture-framed mirror.

Well, we will have to return this lovely light fixture. :( We were expecting to find conduit wire behind the existing fixture, but instead we found an electrical box, which also happens to be 3" off center of the sink. So we need something with a full plate in the back so we can center it and something that doesn't hang so low.

"The Brown Stage"

This is what my mother-in-law might call "the brown stage" of our renovation. Things look much worse now than when we started. We are prepping the walls for paint and preparing to replace some of the fixtures. Apparently, in addition to the all blue color scheme, it was once all red. I have to admit that I like the blue better.

One of our biggest challenges has been removing the bathroom mirror, which was glued to the wall. After sawing through the glue on the back of the mirror with piano wire, we were eventually able to pry it off. It will soon be ready for our new oversized medicine cabinet.

Another challenge has been the toilet, which we have to replace before moving day. I'll spare you posting the pictures inside the tank.

Hey look, it's a surprise hole behind the hotel-style sconce we removed--seems to be a telephone outlet! So the decision has been made for us, a piece of artwork will now go on this wall.

SOLD!

Here's the happy couple on closing day. We couldn't buy our first place without taking a cheesy picture in front of the sold sign! However, the condominium doesn't allow signs outside, so this is the best we could do.

Countdown to 8.24.07

On August 24th it will be a done deal and we will officially be homeowners! The settlement is scheduled for 2PM and we are hoping for smooth sailing. Our loan is fully approved, and the paperwork will be ready for signing.

Welcoming Foyer

No, that is not the camera lens--EVERYTHING'S BLUE! We have a LOT of painting to do: ceiling, walls, trim, doors, eesh. All door hardware will also be replaced with brushed knickel.

In-Unit Washer Dryer

Old, but it works. We plan to replace the washer and dryer in January.

Inviting Dining Area

Our new 32" Toshiba flat panel television (woo-hoo!) will hang on the wall over our media cabinet where the chairs are. Our dining room table will go in the same place as the one shown.

Our bed will go where the loveseat is.

Bright Chef's Kitchen

We will immediately replace all the appliances with stainless steel, but we haven't yet decided on the brand. We will eventually replace the countertops, and maybe the cabinets. I can't help but like the existing cabinets though--very retro.

Updated Bathroom
That lighting fixture and unframed mirror have to go! We will immediately replace these. We hope to replace the vanity and countertop within the first six months.

Comfortable Murphy Bed

Against everyone's most well-intentioned advice, we are selling the Murphy Bed. It really will not suit our needs because:

1) we despearately need under-the-bed storage,

2) we would not put it up everyday, and

3) it does not really provide more usable space, just walking room.

Murphy beds are great for things like guest rooms or for people who do a lot of entertaining, neither of which apply to us.
